God and Other Supernatural Entities

Do you know that all four gospel books in the Bible were focused on establishing Jesus' identity? That should make us realize how important it is to understand the orthodox beliefs about Christ. When faced with a crisis of faith, Habakkuk thought about the revealed character and work of God and decided he could trust in him; thus we can see the value of understanding what God has revealed about himself. Here are some documents that will help you think through the biblical teachings about God, Jesus, and other supernatural beings. As always, if you read only one thing, make it the "foundations of faith" series.
If you are interested in the nature of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I suggest any of the following: Charles Ryrie's Basic Theology [pp.27-70]; Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology [pp.141-261, 529-656]; A. W. Tozer's The Knowledge of the Holy; J. I. Packer's Knowing God. If you are interested in how the identity and work of Christ is under attack and how you can know the truth, try Darrell Bock and Daniel Wallace'sDethroning Jesus: Exposing Popular Culture's Quest to Unseat the Biblical Christ, or J. Ed Komoszewski, M. James Sawyer, and Daniel Wallace'sReinventing Jesus: How Contemporary Skeptics Miss the Real Jesus and Mislead Popular Culture. For discussion about the Holy Spirit, of which there is not much in my writings, you might try Charles Ryrie's The Holy Spirit [for a general summary], Charles Swindoll's Flying Closer to the Flame [for a personal investigation by a wary conservative], or Daniel Wallace and M. James Sawyer's Who's Afraid of the Holy Spirit [for essays by conservative theologians who still believe in being Spirit led]. If you are interested in angels, demons, or Satan, I suggest any of the following: Robert Lightner's Angels, Satan, and Demons; Lewis Sperry Chafer'sSatan: His Motives and Methods; Charles Ryrie's Basic Theology [pp.137-194]; Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology [pp.397-438].
